‘Finite times’ – A villanelle.

Daffodils
Finite times you see
the daffodils unfold
though we might wish eternity

We stand and gaze in eulogy
and drink the gold
Finite times you see

the dancing waves of the rolling sea
just finite times we can behold
though we might wish eternity

And I would pull you close to me
and hold and hold and hold
Finite times you see

the light shafts shining through the tree
and temporarily uphold
though we might wish eternity

As night draws in I wish to be
thank-full, reverent, uncontrolled
Finite times you see
though we might wish eternity

light through magnolia

  1. It is lovely Wyon, and I know why you wrote it. I think that the subject fits the Villanelle form well. It is a rewarding poetic form isn’t it?
