HAIKU 9

On the motorway,
white lights coming towards us,
red lights up ahead.

  1. I used to stand on an overpass in Singapore during festival night time and watch the oncoming whites and the receding twinkling colours speculating on those anxious people coming and going and wondering about their lives. Did they have an objective in mind in their travel? My children once remarked, “Dad, the Christmas lights have escaped.” That suggests confusion doesn’t it? Perhaps life can be like that too.

  2. I love those accounts, Ian. Sometimes it is really hard to let in that everyone else has a flow of thoughts, objectives, worries and so on, just like us. I think that almost all of us are deeply confused like this and that we need to keep remembering we are not the only conscious being, or for that matter separate from the rest.
